Countering the claims made by left leaders and JNUSU; ABVP members in the first media briefing after yesterday’s rioting in the JNU campus said that they were beaten up by a mob which was led by JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh.

ABVP members talking to the media said, “We have been accused of inciting violence and leading a mob but the reality is we were beaten up. If you see the video the mob was being led by Aishe Ghosh.” They claimed that videos showing mob violence were authenctic and there Aishe Ghosh can be seen leading the mob into a student hostel.

On allegations of communicating and orchestrating the violence using Whatsapp chat groups, ABVP members claimed that their phones were either taken away or broken when they were attacked. “We were chased out of our rooms and beaten, I have no idea if I’m a member of this group chat but if it is true I’m sure I was added using the joining link.”

Injured ABVP members alleged that they were not treated timely at the AIIMS trauma centre. “We were injured and for even first aid we had to wait 8-10 hours,” said one student member of ABVP. ABVP members also alleged that JNU Professor Vivek Vajpayee threatened them at the AIIMS Trauma centre.

In the violence that erupted at the JNU campus on Sunday evening, Left student outfits and ABVP have pointed fingers at each other. More than 30 students were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for emergency treatment including JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh.

Left party leaders and Congress have questioned the Delhi Police for not being able to curtail the violence.
